Music Composition — Weekly Grading Rubric William Wieland
As I noted on the syllabus, evaluating the merit of a music composition is highly subjective and I want you to find your own voice. I do not want you to spend the semester asking yourself, “What does Dr. Wieland want to hear?” Therefore, your grade is primarily based upon completing assignments on time
  • You earn 90 points if you submit a satisfactory composition on time. Only clearly substandard work is deemed unsatisfactory, e.g. a 2-measure-long composition. If I deem your work to be unsatisfactory, I will explain why and then give you a chance to resubmit the composition along with a new deadline.
  • You earn 45 points if you submit a satisfactory composition a week or two late.
  • You receive no points for any composition that is more than 2 weeks late.
  • You earn up to 10 more points by rating your music composition as follows:
     10 – Perfect
      9 – Absolutely Incredible
      8 – Superb
      7 – Great
      6 – Very Good
      5 – Good
      4 – Fine
      3 – Poor
      2 – Bad
      1 – Dreadful
0 – My Worst Composition To Date
You can earn an A in MUS 715 by turning in satisfactory work on time.
