John Buccheri, a Northwestern University music professor when I was a graduate student, coined the term “anupholsterphobia”. phobia — fear of something an — prefix meaning “not” upholster — to cover something anupholsterphobia = fear of not covering something “Anupholsterphobia” is common among educators—but we cannot cover everything in a class, a semester, or even a curriculum. We must offer as much breadth and depth as we can and trust that we and our students will continue learning.
